What to expect from
Infant Aquatics CT

The primary focus of Infant Aquatics CT is to teach your child to become a productive swimmer or floater in any depth of water.

As a result of his/her instruction, your child will become a skilled survival floater or swim-float-swimmer in just weeks, not years. These skills will greatly increase your child’s chance of surviving an aquatic accident, even fully clothed!

We are different because we teach each student with a gentle and encouraging approach, recognizing that each child is uniquely different.

About Infant Aquatics CT

Infant Aquatics CT goes beyond traditional swimming lessons by ensuring that infants, toddlers, and young children are taught survival skills to help them if they reach the water alone. Swimming is not a natural instinct for humans; it is a skill that must be learned and practiced.

With Infant Aquatics CT, you will see results in weeks, not years! At the end of lessons, your child will be able to successfully demonstrate age appropriate survival skills, including a roll from a face-down position to a face-up survival float and/or a swim-float-swim sequence.

FAQs

This is simply the ability of a baby or child to float and breathe, regardless of the water’s depth, for an indefinite period of time.

Children between the ages of 6 to 12 months old are taught to roll over (from face down to face up) and maintain a float position in the event of an accidental fall into the water. Teaching your infant to float takes approximately 4 weeks (or about 16 lessons). Private 10-minute lessons are held 4 days per week, Monday through Thursday. Fully-skilled infants can maintain a float in a bathing suit or in clothing. Infant Aquatics CT highly recommends survival training when your infant can roll well from belly to back (face down to face up) on dry land.

Children over the age of one year are taught to swim with their faces in the water, and when they sense the need for air, to roll over to their back and float. After resting and catching their breath, they flip over and continue to swim to the nearest point of safety.  A child can perform this swim-float-swim sequence to safely reach their point of entry into the water in a survival situation. Children can also perform this sequence in their clothes. If a child does not see a way out of his predicament, he will roll over onto his back and maintain a floating position. This buys the parent time in the event of an accident. This same sequence is most often used for fun at the pool!

Infant Aquatics CT is the leading source for infant and child aquatic survival instruction and swim classes in Connecticut.  Infants as young as 6 months can learn to roll over from a face down position in the water onto their backs to float, rest and breathe (the survival back float).  Young children and toddlers are able to learn a more advanced sequence of swimming face down, rolling onto their backs to breathe, and returning to swim face down again (the swim-float-swim sequence).

Since each pool charges a different rental rate, the cost of lessons depends upon the location.  Please contact me directly via email for more information at infantaquaticsct@gmail.com.  The one-time non-refundable registration fee is $120.00 for the first child, and $80 for siblings registered at the same time.  This includes the required swim diaper and wetsuit for all children under 4 years of age.

Children are naturally drawn to water without understanding its potential dangers.

Children are naturally drawn to water without understanding its potential dangers.  Countless children drown or suffer permanent injury every year because of avoidable accidents.  Drowning is a silent killer than can occur in seconds!

A parent would never allow their child to play in the street.  However, if there were no cars coming, that child would be perfectly safe.  On the other hand, if an untrained child plays in the water alone, chances for survival are slim.  It is critically important that parents understand the risks of introducing their child to the water before the child knows how to save his/her own life.  Before signing your baby up for swimming lessons or mommy & me classes, please ask yourself how your child would react if he/she fell into the water alone.

Although no child can be made “drown-proof,” children who possess basic survival swimming skills have a significantly higher chance of surviving an aquatic accident.  The goal of Infant Aquatics CT and our team is to provide your child with these life-saving skills.
