CERTIFIED INFANT AQUATIC SURVIVAL SPECIALIST &
INFANT AQUATICS CERTIFYING INSTRUCTOR

All new students must complete private survival skill lessons before joining group classes.

Every lesson for every child is individualized and one-on-one with the instructor. I teach children as young as 6 months old, provided they can roll well from belly to back (face down to face up) on dry land, to about 6 years old.  Students attend short private lessons four days per week, Monday-Thursday.

SURVIVAL FLOATING FOR INFANTS UNDER 1 YEAR:

Students who are rolling (generally 6-8 months) through about 12 months will learn survival floating.

S/He will be taught to rotate from a face-down position in the water to a back float. The baby will be taught to rest and breathe on his/her back until help arrives.

After accomplishing these skills in a bathing suit, children will then practice their skills in summer clothing and then progress onto winter clothing.

Lessons are one-on-one, 4 days per week (Monday-Thursday), 10 minutes long for 4 consecutive weeks. These lessons prepare students to join a group Aquababies class.

1-4 Years

SWIM-FLOAT-SWIM SEQUENCE FOR CHILDREN OVER 1 YEAR AND UNDER 4 YEARS**

A child who is walking or very close to walking (usually anytime after 12 months to 3 years) will learn the swim-float-swim sequence. Children will learn to swim a short distance with their faces fully submerged, to roll onto their backs to float and rest whenever they need to breathe, and to flip back onto their tummies to continue to swim to safety. After accomplishing these skills in a bathing suit, children will then practice their skills in summer clothing and then progress onto winter clothing. This additional work is critical to survival swimming because most children who find themselves in the water alone are fully clothed.

Lessons are one-on-one, 4 days per week (Monday-Thursday), 10 minutes long for 6 consecutive weeks. These lessons prepare students to join a group Aquababies or FunDay class.

** Parents of 1-year-olds are invited and encouraged to be in the pool during initial lessons.  Although Infant Aquatics CT does not require parents to be in the pool, we have found that in-water participation gives parents valuable experience and added comfort, and results in happier students who learn to swim in less time.

SWIM-FLOAT-SWIM SEQUENCE FOR CHILDREN 4 YEARS AND OLDER

Older children will also learn a swim-float-swim sequence. However, since they have more stamina and longer attention spans, their private one-on-one lessons are 20 minutes long.

S/He will be taught to swim face down using arms and legs (similar to a freestyle stroke); roll onto his/her back to float, rest and breathe when s/he needs air; and then flip over onto his/her stomach to continue swimming until s/he reaches the wall or stairs. This swim-float-swim sequence can be repeated as many times as is necessary to reach safety.

After accomplishing these skills in a bathing suit, children will then practice their skills in summer clothing and then progress onto winter clothing. This additional work is critical to survival swimming because most children who find themselves in the water alone are fully clothed.

Lessons are one-on-one, 4 days per week (Monday-Thursday), 20 minutes long for 3-4 consecutive weeks. These lessons prepare students to join a group FunDay class or a Strokes n’ Floats class.
